Steinbruch Tour Eichstätt

The tour starts at the Tourist Information and leads you through the historic city center. You will leave the city behind you end enter a path into the forest. It will be a steep way up but on your way there is a spot where you can get a short rest before you continue the walk uphill. Once you are leaving the forest, there is a chapel on the left side if you are interested. From here you may go across a field (depends on season) or take the path around it - your choice! The most difficult but also fun and adventurous part of the hike starts: You enter a decommissioned quarry with the iconic geology of the altmühl valley. Millions of rocks and stone sheets are covering the path. Watch your step! Some of the stones show fossil inclusions from the jurassic period. To remember your adventure, pick a prize in form of an indvidual piece. Follow the route a bit more and you will come to the best spot! Enjoy the remarkable panorama view over the city and its surrounding landscape. Take a rest and relax. Once you are ready to continue the direction is downhill. Take good care, the way is very steep and slippery due to all the little rocks and gravel, take your time. When you see the first building, you are back in the civilization. Grab an ice-cone at Mr.Ice to get a refreshment and reward your self.

This trip is intensive and has some tricky sections. We would not recommend to bring children under 12 years, unless you turn around at the highest spot and walk your way back. The steep way down from the panorama view requires a good sense of balance and good physical conditions.
